School holidays and what to do about the kids
It only seemed like yesterday we were packing the kids off to school at the beginning of the year.
Now school holidays are upon us again, the age-old problem of what to do with them has resurfaced in households across South Australia.

Many parents take their annual holidays around school breaks to care for and have fun with their kids. Holidays, events, and outings are planned, with many opting to head out of the city to spend some serious recreation time in locations around our state or interstate.

Some go to the theme parks on the Gold Coast, some go to the footy in Melbourne, and some stay in SA and go camping in various locations. Some even make the long haul to Bali. And, of course, some stay at home and take things on a day-by-day basis.

If you’re looking for some unique ideas, Kiddo and schoolholidays.com.au have an extensive list of things to keep the kids occupied these holidays, with many activities you may not know about.

What about around the home?
For some parents, school holidays mean shifting workplaces from the office to the dining room table for a few weeks.

While trying to do some work, the kids are often left to entertain themselves, however, they know they cant get up too much mischief if youre around. Ground rules are the order of the day here, and if they know to respect the time youve allotted for work by staying out of your hair, you can then dedicate some fun time with them.
And when you do, you and the kids can do an incredible range of activities at home for very little money. Fun holiday activities for kids at home to keep them busy and entertained include art projects, science experiments, indoor games, cooking, garden projects, and much more.

Schoolholidays.com.au also has some ripper ideas for stay-at-home holiday fun.

Getting out and about and supporting SA.
If you are lucky enough to get some time off, visiting the towns affected by the recent floods is a great way to help South Australian river communities to get back on their feet.

Pack up the kids, the car, and the van and check into one of the local caravan parks for a few days (if you dont have a van, book a cabin) and be a tourist in their town. Have dinner at one of the local cafés, restaurants or pubs, shop locally, and support local businesses where possible.

And speaking of supporting local, dont forget the AFL Gather Round, where all AFL fixtures will be played right here in South Australia. There are even games in Mount Barker, so why not support the region by popping up to the Adelaide Hills to watch the footy.

Spending time with family and friends.
School Holidays are also a great time for getting together with family and friends. Long lazy lunches, picnics in the park or at the beach, brekkies, brunches, barbeques, dinners, or whatever else youre into, spending time with other families is always guaranteed fun.

And, because the first school holidays of the year are still sunny, its an opportunity to enjoy the fresh air before the winter weather kicks in.
