Ways to save money when moving to a new house
Do you have a move coming up? Maybe you are moving into a bigger house with a backyard or downsizing to something more manageable.

Moving can not only be stressful, but it can also be a costly exercise.

Luckily with some planning, there are some ways you can save on costs when the big move comes around.

Here are our top tips:

Plan, Plan, Plan

Like any well-executed plan, planning for your move will help to minimise any extra and unexpected costs.

Plan and understand what your outlays will be. Draw up a checklist of all the things that need to be done and costs associated with accomplishing and making your move happen as seamlessly as possible.

If you require a removalist, get a few quotes because they do vary quite significantly.

Different days of the week are priced differently. So, if you can choose the day you move, pick an off-peak day. With that in mind, also ask your removalist if some different days or times are cheaper. It pays to ask ahead.

You can also save on costs by moving yourself and hiring a truck instead of paying for a removalist.

Declutter ahead of the move

It’s amazing just how much stuff we can accumulate over time. Hello, junk cupboard!

Start the decluttering process well before you move.

You could make money from selling some of your things you don’t need anymore, or simply avoid paying to move or store items you don't actually use.

Compare, Compare, Compare

It always pays to do your research when picking your new utility providers for things such as electricity, gas, internet and telephone lines.

Get a few competitive quotes from different providers so you can pick the right option for you.

Packing

Moving boxes can be costly, so look to buy, swap and sell pages online or ask around your friends’ group to see if they have any boxes and old newspaper lying around.

It can save you money on the move and is one less cost to think about.

Happy moving!
