Are you searching for happiness? Do you want to live a full life? These seem to be questions that often pop up in times of change personally, professionally or changes in our society economically or politically.

At McGrath we want our staff to live their lives to the fullest, to enjoy and love their work but also to love the other areas of their lives. Because when our people are happy and fulfilled, the rest falls into place.

Striving for the answer to living a happy life is an age-old question, and it means something different to every person.

"Happiness is the meaning and the purpose of life, the whole aim and end of human existence."

Aristotle said this more than 2,000 years ago. And it still holds true today. What is the real purpose of life, if not to live a happy life until we die?

As we head into the winter months, many people can become a bit reflective on what makes them happy, how to get more fulfilment out of their days, and how to live out their passion.

But how do you do that? Where do you start?

1. Do what you love

By doing what you love, you are bringing joy into your daily life and of those around you. If your passion is swimming, reading books, eating good food or helping others, make sure you incorporate this as a big part of your life.

You are bound to be happier and more fulfilled if you are doing what you love, right?

And if that means you are in a crappy job have the guts to call it out and look at making a change.

2. Be Thankful and practice gratitude

Being thankful for all your many blessings can help you enjoy the day to day grind of life. Notice the small things each and every day that makes you happy that fill your life with love and beauty because the little things are the things that matter in the long run.

3. Give to others

There is nothing in life more satisfying than helping others; personally, and professionally. If you feel like something is missing in your life, look at how you can serve others, where can you help in your community.

And how can you make an impact by just being you? We all have unique gifts to bring to the world, what are yours?

4. If you don’t like your situation, move, you are not a tree!

We can often get stuck in situations that no longer serve us, that make us unhappy or that no longer challenge us.

Be brave and be willing to make a move when a change needs to happen. Don't keep yourself in situations that are not good for you; relationships, jobs or places that no longer inspire you.

5. Be you

We are all wonderfully unique with our own stories to tell, passions and things to offer to the world. Think about what is it that you love to do and go with it with all your being.

And don’t be afraid to make a change. You can change who you want to be at any point in time.
